Discussion of renaming Woodland Trails Park to Woodland Trails Regional Park
Recommend,by motion,renaming Woodland Trails Park to Woodland Trails Regional Park.
Background/Discussion
The Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trail Commission recently announced Woodland Trails Park
as one of the 14 parks and trails in Greater Minnesota to achieve Significant Regional status for 2016.
Successful applicants for regional designation undergo a stringent review process to ensure the
application meets the criteria and high standards set by the commission. One of the criteria is the
completion of a parks master plan that was adopted by City Council on July 18, 2016.
Staff recommends adding the word "regional" to the name to give the park the recognition it deserves
for being recognized as the crown jewel of parks in our region. It should also assist in pursing continued
grant funding.
The next step following the city policy on renaming requires that staff post a public notice at least 10-
days prior to the October Commission meeting.
