RE: WWTP Primary- Digester Improvements
CHANGE ORDER NO.1
Dear Ms. Johnson:
Attached are three copies of Change Order No.1 for the above-referenced proj~ct. An
additional change order is expected for minor electrical changes and painting beitIg delayed
until Spring due to weather. This change order totals $31,499. The attached forlm defines
each change, the amount, and the purpose. The main changes were caused by sealant
requirement around edge of cover, concrete repair, and additional removal costs ,due to the
change in cover condition between bid and construction, electrical changes, repU.cement of
existing process valves, and seal water for one of the pumps.
The Engineer's Estimate for this project was $810,000. The low bid was $609,750. This
change order brings the project total to $641,249, which represents a 5% increase over the
bid price.
We recommend approval of Change Order No. 1 at the appropriate City Council meeting.
If you have any questions concerning this, please call me at 651-644-4389.
Sincerely,
Howard R. Green Company

You are directed to make the following changes in the Contract Documents.
Description:
1. Eliminate 6" swing-flex check valves (typ 2) on mixing pumps shown in Detail A/P-2.
Eliminate 6" swing-flex check valves (typ. 2) added to recirculation pump by
Addendum NO.1 as shown in Details 3/P-3 and B/P-3.
2. Add sealant as shown on Detail A from Environdyne Drawing No. 700-B-47980
and per attached Sheet CO-2.
3. Revise temporary piping for heating secondary digester including wet tap off of mixing
ump discharge to secondary digester.
4. Replace existing Varec gas valve on gas piping above cover.
5. Deduct for not repairing digester wall penetrations into digester building.
6. Deduct for replacement of piping and fitting inside digester as directed.
Replace stainless steel bolts not previously replaced on fittings.
Add 6" diameter by 1'-6" pipe extension on lower overflow pipe.
7. Additional concrete repair around top of tank due to cover shifting.
8. Additional labor to jack up cover and prepare for removal.
9. Add the following to Digester Building motor control center (MCC):
($ -2,658.00)
$ 11,720.00
$ 2,704.00
$ 995.00
($ -4,770.00)
($ -3,033.00)
$ 5,015.00
$ 3,914.00
$ 5,174.00
1.1. One (1) new full voltage reversing size 1 starter (FVR-1) in MCC unit 3A for the Digester Sludge
Pump. Because a reversing starter is taller than a non-reversing starter, a new ~oor will also be
required. The new door should include the following control devices: HAND-OIt'F-AUTO selector
switch, FORWARD/REVERSE selector switch, green RUN indicator lamp (LEDitype), and red
STOPPED indicator lamp (LED type).
1.2. One (1) new 15 amp breaker and door in MCC unit 4T for the Boiler Supply Fan. Since this is only a
breaker, no door mounted control devices are required.
1.3. Four (4) new HAND-OFF-AUTO selector switches on the doors of MCC units 1A, 1 E, 2A, and 2E.
1.4. Four (4) new red STOPPED indicator lamps (LED type) on the doors of MCC urnits 1A, 1 E, 2A, and
2E.
10. Add 6" Butterfly valve with wafer on overflow piping; replace existing 12" plug valve
between existing mixing pump inlet and primary digester.
11. Eliminate caulking along exterior welds of digester cover. Eliminate caulking around
perimeter of digester cover.
12. Build wood transition from welded digester cover to digester gallery roof to allow
water to flow onto roof. Add rubber paver material to flat "step" areas and add
blocking under hatch.
$ 3,235.00
($ -2,350.00)
$ 1,668.00
13. Replace two 12" plug valves on existing line to isolate between mixing pumps.
14. Seal Water for recirculation pump.
$ 7,531.00
$ 2,354.00
Purpose of Change Orders:
1. Manufacturer suggestion from Vaughan mixing pump shop drawing submittal. Existing recirculation
pump does not have check valve; positive head on suction pipe should stop backflow through pump.
2. Sealant not shown clearly in plans or described clearly in specifications.
3. Problems with proposed temporary piping when mixing system running.
4. Gas piping was to be reused. Plant staff determined valve was hard to operate d(.lring construction.
5. All penetrations in good condition.
6. Existing pipe and fittings in good condition.
7. Cover shifted prior to removal and caused concrete cracking.
8. Cover shifted prior to removal and caused wedging of the cover.
9. Items required for operation and not included in plans.
10. Requested by plant staff for proper operation and due to leaks in existing 12" plu~.
11. Caulking not required since insulation will cover entire cover.
12. Manufacturers recommendation for several fittings ahead of pump seal and on Pl!lmp drain.
13. Plates around exterior of cover were larger than originally detailed. The plates e~tended to the
building roof and would have held water, thus requiring the gap between building land cover to be
built up.
14. Valves did not hold and sludge was leaking.
15. Pump manufacturer requested several fittings and valves on seal water to recircLllation pump,
