Discuss path light installation at Trott Brook Farms Park
Background/Discussion
During Open Forum at the September 14,2016,Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting,a resident
adjacent to Trott Brook Farms Park,Debbie Chanthanouvang,requested the city install lights on the park
paths. She felt lights were needed for safety reasons and to assist with an increased number of incidents
caused by juveniles in the park.
Police reports only show an August incident for loud music which happened with a parent present at the
basketball court. The lack of reported incidents indicates no problems with criminal or suspicious
activities in the park.
Elk River Municipal Utilities estimated installation costs at$8,500. The Trott Brook Farm Park Barn has
adequate security lighting on the building.
Staff does not recommend lighting at this time based on the police reports and budget.
Financial Impact
Cost to install four utility lights on the path at the park is estimated at$8,500.
