SUBJECT: Authorization to Purchase a Pick-up Truck and Larger
Hydraulic Hoist for One Ton Truck
The 2005 Wastewater Budget contains funding for a new % ton pick-up truck and a
larger hydraulic hoist. The truck would replace a 1992 Dodge. The 1992 Dodge would go to
the Building Maintenance Department, as they are in need of a 4x4 truck that will handle a
snow plow.
The hoist would replace a smaller hoist that was purchased in 2001.While the hoist is only
four years old, we have a need for a larger hoist with more cable capacity. The hoist is used
for removing pumps from lift stations and the existing hoist does not have large enough
cable to pull the larger pumps from the two new lift stations without having to double the
cable up with a snatch block. This is a safety hazard and is very time consuming, The new
hoist would have larger cable and 30 more feet of cable. The old hoist would go to the Street
Department, as they have a need for it.

Recommendation
It is my recommendation that the Pick-up be purchased from Thane Hawkins Polar. I am
recommending that the hoist be purchased from J -Craft, even though the price is a litrle
higher. We purchased the old hoist from J -Craft and they have always been prompt and
have provided good service on the old hoist. In addition the hoist from Crysteel has a
slighrly smaller capacity.
