SUBJECT: Consider Appointment of Allen Pudlick to
Full-Time Status

The proposed 2001 budget includes funds for Allen Pudlick to go to full-time
status. Allen works in government buildings as a Building Custodian.
Currently, his main functions are to clean at city hall and the library under
the direction of Sue Herrboldt (who is under the supervision of Phil Hals).
The additional work for Allen will include outside maintenance at both the
library and city hall, which includes sidewalk snow removal in the winter and
some mowing/landscape maintenance in the summer. Additionally in the
winter we will have Allen work about eight hours a week cleaning at the Ice
Arena. This work will be mostly on Fridays and the Ice Arena will be charged
for his services. Using Allen at the Arena on Fridays will allow the part-time
employees on Thursday evening to leave at a more reasonable time after
games and, quite frankly, Allen will be able to do a better cleaning job then
some of the part-time employees do at the end of a long day.
I would like for the Council to consider moving Allen to full-time status on
October 16, 2000, rather than waiting until 2001. The 2000 government
building budget projected Allen to begin in January and he did not begin until
March, so some excess funds are available in this budget for these additional
hours.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council promote Allen Pudlick to full-time
. status effective Monday, October 16, 2000.
