SUBJECT: Liquor Clerk Promotion
Northbound Liquor manager Dave Potvin is requesting that Kristi Hanson be promoted to
Liquor Clerk II. Kristi was hired in 1986 as a part time Liquor Clerk I. Several years ago
Kristi was promoted to a full time Liquor Clerk I position.
. Kristi has been a very valuable employee at the store, and as Dave explained in his
memo, he would like to better utilize her skills as a Liquor Clerk II with additional duties
including ordering merchandise, supervising part time staff, and opening and closing the
store. There are currently four employees whose duties include opening and closing the
store; this means one of these employees must be on duty at all times. Opening and
closing duties include preparing the tills, balancing cash, preparing the deposit and
general banking duties. The addition of another Liquor Clerk II will help ensure that a
qualified employee is available every morning and night to handle these duties. At this
time there are no plans to fill the full time Liquor Clerk I position.
Action ReQuested
The Council is asked to promote Kristi Hanson to Liquor Clerk II, pay grade 6, step C,
effective October 17, 2000.

SUBJECT: Promotion of Kris Hanson

I would like to move Kris Hanson to a position with some increased
responsibility. Currently she is a Liquor Clerk I, which is essentially the
same as all of our part time employees. It is for this reason that I would like
to upgrade her position to Liquor Clerk II.
Kris will be trained to do some purchasing of merchandise, opening and
banking procedures as well as other duties described in the Liquor Clerk II
job description or as the need arises under management direction. It makes
sense for the store to make better use of a 40 hour per week employee and I
believe Kris will do well with the change.
I would also like to suggest that we start Kris at a step [C] on Pay Grade 6,
(Liquor Clerk II scale). I would like to make this change as soon as
reasonable. Thank you.
