Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Energy City continues to work with the University of St. Thomas Sustainable
Communities Partnership on local initiatives in Elk River. The solar powered picnic
table is in the final stages of design. The table will be placed in Lake Orono Park. The
Youth committee continues to grow in numbers and may begin a partnership with St.
Anthony Village Middle School. Staff attended a special joint informational meeting with
the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and the Minnesota Environment Quality
Board. The topic of the meeting was Germany's Energy Transition: Lessons Learned and
the Next Steps.
• ERMU is now a participant in the EPA partnership program called Water Sense®. This
partnership focuses on promoting water conservation and efficiency. This partnership is
similar to the EnergyStar®partnership for electricity. In addition to smart irrigation
controllers, ERMU will now offer water efficiency rebates for clothes washers,
dishwashers, toilets, and faucets that meet the Water Sense criteria and are labeled with
the logo. Attached is the new 2017 Water Conservation Rebate Application.
• ERMU has received and accepted the American Public Power Association Demonstration
of Energy & Efficiency Development Program (APPA DEED Grant) for electric vehicle
charging stations and fleet vehicle assessments for the utilities and City.
• Staff is in the process of evaluating equipment and service providers for the electric
vehicle charging stations that will consist of one 480 volt, and one 240 volt station. The
evaluation should be completed by December 31, 2016.
• Staff met with representatives from ChargePoint to discuss the details of the equipment
purchases and master services agreement. Staff has consulted with legal counsel and is
working through the details to get the contracts and purchase agreements completed by
December 31, 2016.
• ERMU staff and the Utilities Commission completed the evaluation of lighting contest
participants. The list of all participants and the winners were provided to the Star News

so they could be published in the paper on December 15th. This is a popular article and
many families enjoy the driving tour of lights each year.
• ERMU staff met with Tri-County Community Action Program (Tri-Cap)to deliver
energy and water efficiency kits for their clients. Tri-Cap works in the ERMU service
territory to provide energy related services to qualified home owners and renters. The kits
help clients reduce their energy and water consumption which leads to more affordable
energy and water bills. Each year Tri-Cap assists ERMU in reaching out to these
customers to provide these much needed services.
