Date: December 14,2016
Subject: Director's Report
This report is a monthly highlight of department activities related to collaboration, strategic
planning, staff changes/developments, and park operations.
River Edge Commons Park Expansion
The contractor Sunram, was fortunate to work on asphalt, concrete, and pavers through November
and until December 5. They will be back this spring to work on items not completed such as the
railings,irrigation,installation of sod, and plants.
One issue that came up during construction was the upper parking lot bituminous pavement and
patching. Additional work of nearly 2,780 sf was needed to be repaved due to the poor condition of
the existing lot. The asphalt broke up substantially more than expected and the contractor had to
cut apart a larger area than planned, correct soils and repave.
A 240-degree view of the expanded park can be viewed on the parks and recreation Facebook page.
The photo was taken with my iPhone.
The Concert Series band schedule is in progress. The concerts will be on Thursdays June 22
through August 24. The grand opening for the park is planned for Thursday,June 15,2017.
Woodland Trails Regional Park Funding Application
Unfortunately,we did not receive the$450,000 funding we requested from the Greater Minnesota
Regional Parks and Trail Commission (GMRPTC) for Woodland Trails Regional Park. It was
explained from the GMRPTC Director that the total amount of funding applications far exceeded
the available funds and difficult decisions had to be made. We plan to apply again next year for the
next funding cycle.
Park Maintenance Worker Vacancy
Staff held interviews on December 6 for the Park Maintenance Worker position that was recently
vacated. We had three internal candidates and decided to fill the poisiton with Tanner Anderson.
Tanner was a finalist in past inerviews and comes to us from Street Maintenance.

Miske Meadows
Paxmar,LLC has submitted a Preliminary Plat application for Miske Meadows 2nd. The subject plat
does not impact the park area as identified with the River Park development of 2004 or with the
Miske Meadow preliminary plat. Cash dedication will be obtained for this addition
Pinewood Golf Course
Two proposals were received in response to the Pinewood Golf Course RFP and were presented to
City Council on November 21. Although no formal action was taken,it was the consensus of City
Council to move forward with a proposal from Elk River Golf Club to manage Pinewood Golf
Course. Staff is currently working on a contract agreement and should bring it forward to City
Council for review in the new year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
