Item #4.4
MEMORANDUM
TO:
Mayor and City Council
FROM:
Sandra Peine, City Clerk
DATE:
November 27, 2000
SUBJECT: Receptionist Position
REQUEST:
.
To hire Julie Kragness and Katie Kill as part time secretary/receptionist for
the City of Elk River.
BACKGROUND:
Julie Kragness has been working as secretary/receptionist for the City for
about 3 months. She was hired through Westaffwhich is a temporary
employment agency.
Katie Kill has also been working as secretary/receptionist for the City for the
same amount of time. Katie was working for the Street Department last
summer and then took the job as temporary receptionist. Katie and Julie
have been job sharing the position.
Robin Hartfiel transferred from the secretary/receptionist position to the
position of Building Permit Technician. She was given a six-month trial
period for this job. The city was prepared to let her move back to the
secretary/receptionist position if the Building Permit Technician position did
not work out. Robin has indicated that she is happy with the change and does
not need the entire 6 months to make a decision. Steve Rohlf has informed
me that he is very pleased with Robin transferring to his department.

both have requested to be hired on as part time employees. Staff is
recommending hiring Julie and Katie for the position of
secretary/receptionist. The position will be a 'job share" position with both
employees working part time. The two employees' hours will equal 40 hours
per week. The position of secretary/receptionist is a Pay Grade 5. I propose
hiring each at Step A, $10.36 per hour.
