SUBJECT: Hockey Boards For Gary Street Ice Rink
.
At the November 8,2000, Park and Recreation Commission meeting, staff
recommended that an additional set of hockey boards be provided at Gary
Street across from Orono Park. The plan is to offer two hockey rinks in one
location along Gary Street and to provide an open rink and possibly an oval
rink on Lake Orono just south. of the swimming beach. Michele Bergh, Area
Recreation Director, indicated that she has received many requests from
youth hockey coaches for areas that may be open for practice.
The Park and Recreation Commission voted 7-0 to recommend spending
$3,500 for supplies and having the Street/Park Department provide labor to
assemble and erect the second set of boards at the Gary Street location.
The final estimate for material costs is $2,600 and these monies could come
from the 2000 park maintenance budget under other services and charges,
since there are several line items that are not likely to be totally used.
Action Reauested
City Council approve spending $2,600 from park maintenance funds for the
construction of a second set of hockey boards for the Gary Street rink.
