Authorization to Purchase Police Vehicles
This is to inform the City Council that we have received quotes for the purchase of a
Community Service Officer (CSO) vehicle and a vehicle for the patrol sergeants.
In regards to the CSO vehicle, we received a quote from Elk River Ford for a 2001 Ford R15
Ranger Supercab in the amount of $19,866.35. A second quote was received from Saxon
/~Motors for a 2001 Chevrolet 5-10 Extended Cab Pickup in the amount of $18,927.48. We
also received quotes for an 5-10 Blazer and a Ford Explorer; however, we determined that a
pickup truck would work well for the Community Service Officers and would save us about
$5,000.00. Therefore, I am requesting authorization to purchase the Chevrolet 5-10 pickup
from Saxon Motors. If this is approved, we will need to purchase a topper.

Regarding the sergeants' vehicle, we had discussed purchasing a four-wheel drive vehicle
with the City Council a few months ago. We have received quotes from Elk River Ford for a
2001 Ford Excursion in the amount of $31,293.00 and from Saxon Motors for a 2001
Chevrolet Suburban in the amount of $33,560.46. Therefore, I am requesting authorization
to purchase the 2001 Ford Excursion.
For Council information, I want to remind you that as was agreed upon at the budget
meeting a couple of months ago, anything over the $30,000.00 level for the purchase of the
sergeants' vehicle would come out of forfeiture funds.

Note: The Ice Arena budget includes $29,000 from the Equipment Reserve.
Equipment Reserve capital outlay, expenditures for 2001 total $133,000.
The 2001 Equipment Certificate will be paid with Equipment Reserve funds and the tax levy will be cancelled.
