Approve,by motion, a change order for Rivers Edge Commons Park.
Background/Discussion
The contractor for the Rivers Edge Commons Park construction completed the paving of the upper
parking lot in late November. The original scope was to install about 1,020 square feet of asphalt,but
due to the poor condition of the pavement, the contractor had to install 3,800 square feet of bituminous
pavement and patching for $17,097. The existing bituminous was substantially thinner than the specified
bituminous in the project plan. During preparation,the asphalt broke up substantially more than
expected and to get a clean parking lot patch the contractor had to cut out a larger area than planned,
correct soils and repave.
The contractor also had some additional work related to the stone and storm water that will be paid for
from the project contingency of about$6,524.
Completion of this project in the spring includes irrigation,railings and the installation of sod and
plantings. The contract must be done by the end of May of 2017.
Financial Impact
This will be a total change order of$23,621 that will not affect the General Fund. The amount of$6,524
will come from the current project contingency and the $17,097 will come from the Street Improvement
Reserve Fund. This will leave us about$10,435 in contingency to complete the project.
