SUBJECT: Appointment of Vice Mayor
As part of the annual business meeting, the Council is required to
appoint a vice mayor. The vice mayor shall perform the duties of the
mayor during the disability or absence of the mayor from the city or,
if there is a vacancy, until a successor has been appointed.

Although all council members are eligible for this appointment at
anytime, it has been past practice to rotate the position. Listed
below are Vice Mayor appointments during the past seven years.
. 1992 Holmgren
. 1993 Dietz
. 1994 Farber
. 1995 Scheel
. 1996 Holmgren
. 1997 Dietz
. 1998 Farber
If the council chooses to remain consistent with the above pattern,
the next Vice Mayor would be Councilmember Thompson. The
Council, however, can appoint any council member as the vice
mayor.
ACTION REQUESTED
Council motion appointing a vice mayor for 1999.
