SUBJECT: Boys and Girls Club Update
Councilmember Thompson is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Elk
River Boys and Girls Club. Councilmember Motin is also on the Board of
Directors. The Lions Club is working with this organization for the
construction of a facility in Lions Park. The Boys and Girls Club is moving
forward with its fund raising efforts in order to provide money for the
construction of the facility and the operation of the club. Attached is a
1/13/99 Star News article on another Boys and Girls Club fundraising effort
which is the auctioning off of the Randy Moss autographed football.

From all accounts, it seems like ground will not be broken for the
construction of a new facility until early spring 1999. The draft ground lease
between the city and the club is in near final form, but has yet to be signed.
The Council approved the lease with some minor changes on December 7,
1998, (the conditional use permit was approved on May 18, 1998). As I
understand the situation, the local banks and the Boys and Girls Club are
still working out the final details of the project finances.
A Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors meeting was held on Thursday,
January 14, and either Councilmember Thompson or Motin should be able to
provide everyone with an update on the status of this project.
