SUBJECT: Appointment to Park and Recreation
Commission
.
The City Council interviewed Park and Recreation Commission applicants on
December 14,1998. Appointments to the Park and Recreation Commission
were not made at that meeting due to the unresolved issue of "residency."
The residency issue was again discussed by the City Council on January 11,
1999. At that meeting staff was directed to prepare ordinance amendments
for each board and commission in regard to residency requirements. This has
been done and the Council will review this information on Monday evening's
agenda, just prior to this issue.
Lana Huberty was reappointed to the Park and Recreation Commission on
January 11, 1999. With this appointment, there is still one term expiring on
the Park and Recreation Commission.
Listed below are those who have requested appointment to the Park and
Recreation Commission, or whose applications-are less than one year old and
are still on file from previous interviews.
Dana Anderson has served on the Commission for 8 years. He has
requested reappointment. Dana was interviewed by the Council on
December 14. (Application attached).
Mitch Utech. Marvin Johnson and Tim Sladek all have applications on
file that are less than one year old. These individuals were interviewed by
the Council on August 24 but were not appointed to the Commission.
Current policy requires the city to keep applications on file for one year.
These individuals have been informed that the Council is considering two
more appointments and that their applications are included for Council
. consideration. (Applications attached).

Please explain why you would like to serve on the board or commission
selected above: I want to be an active participant in the short and long term
development of the community my family lives in. I like getting to know my
neighbors. Furthermore, I feel that people should contribute something to
their community, if at all possible, no matter what the size or the form of
the contribution.
Also, I enjoy research and group projects.

and writing projects, and presentations. Also, I have been involved in many
small group activities. Graduate of William Mitchell College of Law, J.D.,
Graduate of University of ~m Duluth, B.A. Law clerk at a ~WLS law firm
practicing real estate law and business law. Human Resources Training
. Facilitator and a Sales and Service Associate at Norwest Banks in Duluth.
