Police Chief Tom Zerwas has requested the Council to amend Section 204.02 of the City Code. The existing code requires the Council to designate a police officer as "Acting Chief' who will have powers and duties of the Chief during his absence. Chief Zerwas has requested that the sentence pertaining to this issue be revised to state that the Assistant Chief is responsible for the duties of the Police Chief in his absence. ORDINANCE NO. 99- AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ELK RIVER AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 204.02 OF THE ELK RIVER CITY CODE PERTAINING TO THE DUTIES OF THE POLICE CHIEF The City Council of the City of Elk River does hereby ordain as follows: Section 1. That Section 204.02 entitled "Chief of Police" of the City of Elk River Code of Ordinances shall be amended as follows: 204.02 - CHIEF OF POLICE The Chief of Police shall have supervision and control of the Police Department and its members. The Chief of Police shall be responsible for law enforcement and for property of the City used by the department. The Chief of Police shall be responsible for the proper training and discipline of the members of the department. Further, the Chief of Police shall be responsible for the keeping of adequate records and shall report on the needs of the department and its work. Every member of the department subordinate to the Chief of Police shall obey the instructions of the Chief of Police and any superior officer.
