Background/Discussion
The Parks and Recreation Department currently maintains six outdoor skating facilities throughout the
city. Four skating rinks are located within neighborhood parks;Trott Brook Farms Park,Kliever Lake
Fields Park,West Oaks Park, and Riverplace Park. These rinks are smaller in size and do not contain
boards for boot or stick hockey or warming house facilities;however goals are provided at each facility
and snow is banked to provide a partial backstop.
One skating rink facility located in Lions John Weicht Park consists of an open skate area and a rink
partially enclosed with boards at the ends. The partially enclosed rink has nets provided,is lighted and
the city rents a warming house trailer which is staffed with a warming house attendant.
The outdoor skating facility located at the Handke Pit consists of two fully enclosed skating rinks and a
large open skate area around the rinks. Hockey goals are provided for each rink, the entire area is lighted
and a staffed warming house is located in the existing structure within the park.
