Adopt,by motion, a resolution requesting Great River Regional Library calculate the cost to expand their
library hours for the Elk River Library.
Background/Discussion
Residents have requested the Elk River Library have expanded consistent hours. Mayor John Dietz was
informed the Great River Regional Library Board,who manages the Elk River Library,requires a Council
resolution to consider and calculate the cost of expanding their hours of operations.
The current hours of operation are Monday&Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.,Tuesday&Thursday 12
p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed on Sunday.
The new proposed hours are Monday to Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. and closed on Sunday. Opening at 10 a.m. each day is more consistent and increases the
operating hours by only three per week.

A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Elk River in Which the City of
Elk River asks Great River Regional Library to Calculate the Cost of
Expanding Their Hours of Operation.
WHEREAS, The Elk River Branch of the Great River Regional Library has hours of
operation of Monday&Wednesday 10 a.m.- 8 p.m.,Tuesday&Thursday 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.,
Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., and closed Sunday; and
WHEREAS, The City of Elk River would like the Great River Regional Library,Elk River
Branch, to consider changing their hours of operation to Monday—Thursday 10 a.m. — 8
p.m., Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., and closed Sunday; and
WHEREAS, The City of Elk River requests Great River Regional Library to calculate the
additional cost would operate the Elk River Library the additional three (3) hours per week.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk
River,Minnesota, as follows: Requests Great River Regional Library to calculate the cost to
change the library hours at Elk River Regional Library to be more consistent and increase
their hours of operation by three hours. This resolution is intended to gather information for
further council discussion.
