Approve,by motion, the plans and specifications and authorize the advertisement for bids in the matter
of the 2017 Street Improvement project.
Background/Discussion
Final plans, consistent with the recommendation of the Feasibility Report,have been prepared for the
2017 Street Improvement Project. The plans are currently being reviewed by the MnDOT office for
compliance with all applicable State Aid rules. The full set of plans is available for viewing at City Hall.
The schedule for the project is as follows:
■ Feasibility Report approved by City Council December 5, 2016
■ Approve Plans/Authorize Bids February 21, 2017
■ Open Bids March 22, 2017
■ Award Contract April 3, 2017
■ Construction May—October 2017
Financial Impact
The estimated project cost is currently$4,865,000. This is up about 9% from the estimate provided in
the preliminary engineering report. The increase reflects anticipated pricing adjustments experienced in
the bidding market and revisions to some pavement thicknesses through the final design process. The
balances in our pavement management fund and Municipal State Aid Account are sufficient to cover the
project costs.
A final cost breakdown will be refined upon opening of bids and before award of the construction
contract. No expenditures above previously-approved project administration fees are associated with the
approval of the plans.
