SUBJECT: Anoka-Hennepin Technical College
Update
.
The Anoka - Hennepin Technical College in the city of Anoka is considering
options for its expansion and/or relocation. This college plays an important
role in our economic development efforts and in providing employees for Elk
River businesses. It seems very much in the interest of the city of Elk River to
have the technical college expand on its existing site or relocate to a larger site
in Ramsey, which is one of their options. A least desirable option being
considered is a relocation to the city of Coon Rapids while still maintaining its
presence in the city of Anoka.
The booklet analyzing the Anoka-Hennepin Technical College options has been
forwarded to Elk River and one copy has been given to the Mayor while
another copy has been provided to Director of Economic Development Paul
Steinman. Public input is being received on the two options by the
Foundation Board at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, and Paul will be in
attendance at this meeting to represent the city of Elk River. Mayor Klinzing
is scheduled to go to the 1:30 p.m. meeting on March 11 at the college
auditorium to provide input to the MNSCU Board on Elk River's position
regarding preferred expansion/relocation options.

Anoka - Hennepin Technical College may be moving
FINAL MEETING TO DETERMINE LOCATION
A public hearing will be held with the MNSCU Board of Trustees to have fmal input on the location of
the new Anoka-Hennepin Technical College (AHTC) Building.
There are four proposed options (planned occupancy is 2(04):
1. Existim!: Anob Site - Renovalion / Mass Rt:111odt:ling of Building ( $40 Million)
2. Existin!! Anokn Site - New Building ($78 Million)
... The Anoka location has limited site capacity and future expansion would be difficult.
* Classes would need to continue through the tear down and rebuilding.
* The Anoka location is located near 3 industrial parks and convenient to Elk River
... The Anoka location is favorable to Sherburne County where the greatest percentage of
population is projected.
3. Coon Rapids Site - Joint Anoka-Ramsey Community College Site ($53 Million)
* The Coon Rapids Site has access ,md expansion limitations.
* The Coon Rapids Site is NOT along Hwy 10/ Anoka to St. Cloud industrial corridor
4. Ramsey Site - 80 Acrt:s Silt: on Highway 10 & Ramst:y Boult:vard ($551vfillion)
* The Ramsey location is most favorable to Sherburne County where the greatest
percentage of population is projected.

* The Ramsey location has space and flexibility for jiLture expansion
