Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Amanda Bednar to fill the vacant Environmental Coordinator position
effective March 13, 2017.
Background/Discussion
Environmental Technician Kristin Mroz-Risse resigned to take a position with the State of Minnesota
Environmental Quality Board.
Eighteen applicants applied for the vacant position, which had a title change to be consistent with similar
positions within the organization. Seven candidates were interviewed and four returned for a second
interview.
Ms. Amanda Bednar is currently employed as the City of Coon Rapids Recycling Assistant. Prior to her
work in Coon Rapids, Ms. Bednar worked as a District Representative at the Minnehaha Creek
Watershed District in Minnetonka. She also has experience as a temporary Program Assistant at
Recycling Association of Minnesota and as an Environmental Services Intern at Carver County in
Chaska. She holds a BA from the College of Saint Benedict with a double major in Environmental and
Earth Science and Environmental Studies and Communication.
She will begin at Step A of Grade 7 of our current compensation plan and is eligible for Step B after a
successful orientation period. All pay and benefits are consistent with city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
