SUBJECT: Consider Approval of Hiring Liquor
Store Manager

Per direction of the City Council, I have met with the top candidate for the
Liquor Store Manager position. We have discussed terms and conditions of
employment. I have made him what I would classify as a normal offer for a
department head level position. The applicant is currently in a very good
position with advancement opportunities in the near future. He indicated
that he would like to make a quick decision on this offer in order to not keep
anyone "hanging" on this issue. I encouraged him to take his time, to think
about it over the weekend, and get back to me on Monday. I will have a
verbal update on this job offer for the council on Monday evening.
The update on the Director of Planning position is not as positive. The
applicant of choice has declined the position for a variety of reasons, but we
believe mainly due to family ties in the state where he works. We will be
contacting him again after the holiday weekend to see if he is still sure about
his decision, or maybe having second thoughts about the Elk River
opportunity. If the answer is still no, we will be going back into the pool of
applicants to look at another couple of candidates to interview. I should
know more about the status of this position on Monday.
