SUBJECT: Assistant Director of Economic
Development Position

The Economic Development Authority authorized city staff to utilize the
services of Jim Brimeyer, The Brimeyer Group, to aid in the location of
potential candidates for the assistant director of economic development
position. Mter careful review of approximately 31 applications and interviews
with five individuals, a verbal offer of employment was made to Marc
Nevinski, currently the executive director of the economic development
partnership of Wright County. Mr. Nevinski has been employed with the
Wright County Partnership since May 1997. He has completed a four year
degree in political science and communications and is approximately one year
from earning his master's degree in urban planning.
Mr. Nevinski was unanimously selected by the interview team consisting of
Finance Director Lori Johnson and I and has been verbally offered the
assistant director of economic development position at a starting salary of
$38,000 per year, and an employment start date of May 10,1999, pending
final approval by the City Council.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council approve hiring Marc Nevinski to the
position of assistant director of economic development at a starting annual
salary of $38,000.

The purpose of this letter is to summarize our conversation on Thursday,
March 25, 1999, wherein which I verbally presented an offer of employment to
you for the assistant director of economic development position. The following
outlines the major points of our discussion:
. Starting salary - $38,000
· Employment start date - May 10, 1999
As we discussed, I will be presenting this information to the City Council for
final approval on April 5, 1999.
I have attached to this letter a copy of the city's personnel ordinance and 1999
compensation plan for your information.
