6.1e ERMUSR 03-13-2017 Elk River Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING TO: FROM: Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk- Water Superintendent John Dietz—Chair Al Nadeau—Vice Chair Daryl Thompson—Trustee MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: March 13, 2017 6.1e SUBJECT: Staff Update DISCUSSION: • Delivered five new water meters. • Sealed the water meter, and took curb stop ties from six water services. • Completed 25 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria. • Completed 20 routine fluoride samples o All samples met MDH standards. o Completed one mandatory MDH fluoride validation sample • The WTP#7 Expansion project reached substantial completion on March 1st. We filtered roughly 2 million gallons of water before shutting down for the painters. As soon as the painters are finished we'll start the well back up. MBI still has a final completion date of June 15, 2017. • Our District Engineer from the Minnesota Department of Health visited the WTP#7 Expansion to complete in impromptu sanitary survey. She was pleased with the construction and process. • The Water Operators have been finishing up their annual round of well maintenance, improvements, and painting touch-up. Some of the items include PVC chemical feed tube replacement, installing wall fans for circulation, and getting backwash meters installed and programmed. The operators have also started our annual recharge of filters. • I reported to the Elk River Police Department that one of our customers had informed us that he has had to turn a fire hydrant off three times because someone came along and turned it on. This was around the same time that Big Lake had six of their hydrants turned on which resulted in greatly reduced pressure in their system.
