Hillside City Park
Staff is wrapping up tree clearing operations at Hillside City Park with likely one week of
work remaining. Due to the warm weather in February and the melting of the snow, staff
was unable to continue burning brush on the property, thus the remaining brush will need to
be hauled out of the forest and staged in the southern clearing in the event that conditions
allow further burning. If brush cannot be burned,it will be chipped along with the logs
generated from the removals by a contracted vendor.
Bailey Point Nature Preserve
Demolition of the old horse stable building at Bailey Point Nature Preserve was conducted
the last week of February. Staff conducted the demolition internally resulting in minimal
costs for asbestos testing and landfill fees. Total cost for this demo project is anticipated to
be less than $1,500. Final grading and seeding of the site and the access trail to the barn will
be conducted in the spring when conditions permit.
Spring Clean-ups
Staff has taken advantage of the unusually warm weather to begin spring clean-up activity in
several of the city parks. Clean-ups will continue as time and weather permit. Additionally,
several smaller projects are being conducted to spruce up facilities in preparation for the
busy summer season.
