Mayor Dietz to read and present the proclamation to the Elk River High School girls'basketball team.
Background/Discussion
The 2016-17 Elk River girls'basketball team finished the season with an overall record of 32-0 winning
the Minnesota State High School League Class 4A State Championship.
Mayor Dietz is requesting the Council recognize April 5, 2017, as Elk River Girls' Basketball State
Championship Day.

Elk River Girls' Basketball State Championship Day in the City of Elk
River
WHEREAS,the 2016-17 Elk River High School girls'basketball team won the Northwest
Suburban Conference championship; and
WHEREAS, the 2016-17 Elks girls'basketball team won the Section 8AAAA championship; and
WHEREAS, the 2016-17 Elks girls'basketball team won the Minnesota State High School League
Class 4A state championship; and
WHEREAS, the 2016-17 Elks girls'basketball team became the first team in school history to
finish with an undefeated season,going 32-0; and
WHEREAS,the Elks celebrated the 1251h day of the 2016-17 season by defeating Hopkins to win
the Class 4A state championship; and
WHEREAS,the Elks showed tremendous class and sportsmanship on and off the court; and
WHEREAS,the Elks are not only outstanding athletes but outstanding students as well; and
WHEREAS, the Elks brought tremendous community pride and created a positive image for the
City of Elk River; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I,John J. Dietz,Mayor of Elk River,hereby
proclaim Wednesday,April 5, 2017, as Elk River Girls' Basketball State Championship Day in the
City of Elk River.
