01-14-1896 Chapter Election VCM VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING Minutes of the Proceedings of the Chapter Election the Village of Elk River th held on the 14 day of January A.D. 1896 Chas S. Wheaton, President of said Village, and J.F. Lewis, Trustee of said Village, subscribed the oath of office to serve as Judges of said Election. Andrew Davis, Recorder of said Village, subscribed the oath of office to serve as Clerk of said Election. Proclamation of the opening of the polls was made by Chas S. Wheaton, one of the Judges, at one (1) o’clock P.M., and the election of officers proceeded. At four (4) o’clock P.M., the polls were closed by proclamation of Chas. S. Wheaton, one of the Judges. The Judges then proceeded to publicly canvass the votes, and the persons having the greatest number of votes for the respective offices voted for, were declared elected. The following is a statement of the result of the canvass of votes by ballot for the election of officers as publicly canvassed by the Judges, viz.: Chas. S. Wheaton had 17 votes for President. Chas. S. Wheaton was declared elected President. J.F. Lewis had 17 votes for Trustee. J.F. Lewis was declared elected Trustee. Fred Hildreth had 17 votes for Trustee. Fred Hildreth was declared elected Trustee. A. Bailey had 17 votes for Trustee. A. Bailey was declared elected Trustee. Andrew Davis had 17 votes for Recorder. Andrew Davis was declared elected Recorder. Henry Castle had 17 votes for Treasurer. Henry Castle was declared elected Treasurer. J.H. Williams had 16 votes for Justice of the Peace. J.H. Williams was declared elected Justice of the Peace. W.W. Health had 15 votes for Constable. Robert Adams had 2 votes for Constable. W.W. Health was declared elected Constable. A true record.
