01-11-1898 Election Minutes VCM VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING Minutes of Village Election January 11, 1898 At the annual Village Election of the Village of Elk River in the County of Sherburne and State of Minnesota, held at Music Hall, being the place where it was directed to be held by the Village th Council after given due notice thereof as provided by law, on the 11 day of January 1898. L. Pollard, one of the qualified voters of said Village who had within twenty days before such time been designated and appointed by the Village council to act as Judge of such Election, and N.D. Trumbull, who was elected by acclamation, who being present with the Recorder at the hour of one o’clock P.M., each of them duly took and subscribed an oath to faithfully discharge the duties required of them at such election, and the said Judges and Clerk being duly qualified, forthwith opened the polls by proclamation, and the election proceeded by ballot without adjournment or intermission until closed. The subjects voted on at such election as stated in the Notice thereof were: To elect: one President of Common Council, three Trustees, one Recorder, one Treasurer, one Justice of the Peace, one Constable. At four o’clock in the afternoon of said day, the polls were closed, proclamation thereof having been made by one of the Judges thirty minutes previous thereto. The Judges then proceeded to publicly count and canvass the votes, and continued without intermission until complete and the result declared. Statement of Result of Canvass The following is a true statement of the result of the counting and canvass of votes by ballot at the annual Village Election of the Village of Elk River, County of Sherburne and State of Minnesota, held Jan. 11, 1898, as proclaimed to the voters by one of the Judges of Election. H.C. Hastings received 40 votes for Pres. of Council. H.C. Hastings was declared elected Pres. of Council. F.P. Brown received 40 votes for Trustee. C.T. Nickerson received 40 votes for Trustee. L. Pollard received 41 votes for Trustee. F.P. Brown, C.T. Nickerson and L. Pollard were declared elected Trustees. Andrew Davis received 40 votes for Treas. Andrew Davis was declared elected Treas. Charles M. Babcock received 39 votes for Rec. Charles M. Babcock was declared elected Rec. E.H. Davis received 40 votes for Justice of the Peace. E.H. Davis was declared elected Justice of the Peace.
