VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
April 9, 1898
Village Council met at courthouse at 3 P.M.
Present: H.C. Hastings, Pres.; F.P. Brown, C.T. Nickerson, Trustees; Chas. M. Babcock, Rec.
On motion the following resolution was adopted and accepted:
Whereas the Council of the Village of Elk River having received a Petition from the taxpayers of
said village asking that the said board put in operation a free ferry at or near the present ferry in said
village, and a subscription of some $50 Dollars having been raised by the businessmen of said village
and a subscription of some $200 Dollars having been tendered to the said Council, $100 Dollars to
be paid this season and $100 Dollars next season by residents of Otsego, all for the said free ferry;
Resolved: that we the Village Council of said Village do hereby appropriate a sum in addition to the
sums allready \[sic\] named, out of the License money now in the hands of the Treasurer of said
Village, to purchase the present ferry known at the Hare Ferry and put the same in operation as a
free ferry at the earliest date practicable.

On motion Mr. Brown was appointed to procure all necessary papers for transferring of property
from Mr. L.O. Hare to the Village of Elk River and agreement of Mr. L.O. Hare for running free
ferry.
