VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
Minutes of Village Election
January 8, 1901
At the annual Village Election of the Village of Elk River in the County of Sherburne and State of
Minnesota, held at the Recorder’s office, being the place where it was directed to be, the Village
Council after giving due notice thereof as provided by law, on the 8th day of January 1901.
J.S. Guerney and W.F. Chadbourne, two qualified voters of said Village who had within twenty days
before such time been designated and appointed by the Village Council to act as Judges of such
Election, who being present with the Recorder as Clerk of Election at the hour of one o’clock P.M.;
each of them duly took and subscribed an oath to faithfully discharge the duties required of them at
such election, and the Judges and Clerk being duly qualified forthwith opened the polls by
proclamation and the election proceeded by ballot without adjournment or intermission until closed.
The subjects voted on at such election as stated in the notice thereof were to elect: one President,
three Councilmen, one Recorder, one Treasurer, and one Justice of the Peace.
At 4 o’clock in the afternoon of said day, the polls were closed, proclamation thereof having been
made by one of the Judges thirty minutes previous thereto.
The Judges then proceeded to count and canvass the votes, and a true statement thereof was
proclaimed to the voters by some one of the Judges of Election.
Statement of Result of Canvass
The following is a true statement of the result of the counting and canvass by ballot at the Annual
Village Election of the Village of Elk River, County of Sherburne and State of Minnesota, held
January 8, 1901, as proclaimed to the voters by some one of the Judges of Election.
F.S. Waterman recd. 25 votes for Pres. of Council.
A.N. Dare recd. 56 votes for Pres. of Council.
A.N. Dare was declared elected President.
C.M. Babcock recd. 27 votes for Councilman.
Wm. Iliff recd. 24 votes for Councilman.
Chas. Blocker recd. 24 votes for Councilman.
C.S. Wheaton recd. 54 votes for Councilman.
J.S. Guerney recd. 57 votes for Councilman.
H. Castle recd. 57 votes for Councilman.
C.S. Wheaton was declared elected Councilman.
J.S. Guerney was declared elected Councilman.
H. Castle was declared elected Councilman.
