VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
Minutes of Village Election
January 14, 1902
At the annual Election of the Village of Elk River in the County of Sherburne and State of
Minnesota, held at Houlton Hall as appointed by Village Council, after giving due notice thereof as
provided by law, on the 14th day of January 1902.
W.F. Chadbourne and L.G. Davis, two qualified voters of said Village who had within twenty days
before said Election been appointed as Judges of such Election, and being present with the
Recorder as Clerk of Election at the hour of one o’clock P.M.; each of them took and subscribed an
oath to faithfully discharge the duties required of them at such election, and being qualified
forthwith opened the polls by proclaiming and the election proceeded by ballot without
adjournment until closed.
The subjects voted on at the election were to select: one President, three Trustees, one Treasurer,
one Recorder, one Justice of the Peace, and one Constable.
At 4 o’clock P.M., the polls were closed after proclamation thereof by one of the Judges of Election
10 minutes previous thereto.
The Judges then publicly counted the ballots and canvassed the vote, and a true statement thereof
was proclaimed by one of the Judges.
Statement of Result of Canvass
Following is a true statement of the result of the canvass of the Election as proclaimed:
C.J. Scoboria received 71 votes for Pres.
A.N. Dare received 64 votes for Pres.
C.J. Scoboria was declared elected President.
Perry Clute recd. 69 toes for Trustee.
N.K. Whitteman recd. 64 votes for Trustee.
A.A. Opitz recd. 69 votes for Trustee.
Albert Bailey recd. 66 votes for Trustee.
J.E. McBride recd. 69 votes for Trustee.
Henry Castle recd. 65 votes for Trustee.
Perry Clute, A.A. Opitz and J.E. McBride were declared elected Trustees.
H.E. Castle recd. 69 votes for Treasurer.
Andrew Davis recd. 66 votes for Treasurer.
H.E. Castle was declared elected Treasurer.
Harry Nickerson recd. 69 votes for Recorder.
J.H. Romdeune recd. 64 votes for Recorder.
Harry Nickerson was declared elected Recorder.
E.H. Davis recd. 66 votes for Justice of the Peace with no opposition and was declared elected.
M.L. Forth recd. 2 votes for Constable.
John Bother recd. 1 vote for Constable.
M.L. Forth was declared elected Constable.
