03-09-1909 annual town meeting TBM PROCEEDINGS OF THE ANNUAL TOWN MEETING TOWN OF ELK RIVER March 9, 1909 Minutes of the Proceedings of The Annual Town Meeting at the Annual Town Meeting held in the Town of Elk River in the County of Sherburne and State of Minnesota at the Phoenix Hall in the Villige \[sic\] of Elk River on the 9th day of March 1909. The meeting was called to order by A.H. Keen, Town Clerk. A.W. Tourtillott was then chosen as Moderator of the Meeting. The Moderator at the opening of the Meeting stated the business to be transacted and the order of the same as follows: to elect 2 Supervisors, to wit: one for the term of 3 years, one for the term of one year; one Town Clerk, one Treasurer, one Assessor, two Justices of the Peas \[sic\], two Constable; and to do any other business proper to be done at said meeting. st That said business would be entertained in the following order: 1, the election by ballot of Town nd Officers; 2, at one o’clock P.M., the business meeting of the Town would be held. Proclamation of opening of the polls was then made by the Moderator, and the polls opened and the election of Town Officers proceeded. \[At\] 2 o’clock P.M. the Town Clerk read publick \[sic\] the report of the Board of Auditors including a Statement of the fiscal concerns of the Town and an estimate of the sums necessary for the current and incidental expenses of the Town for the ensuing year. On motion it was ordered that the following sums of money be raised by tax upon taxable property in said Town for the following purposes for the current year: For General Township purposes $150.00 For Road and Bridge $1,000.00 It was then on motion resolved that the compensation of Town Officers elected at this meeting shall be Two Dollars per day. Proclamation of the polls was then made by the Moderator, and the polls opened and the election of Town Officers proceeded.* At five o’clock the polls wer \[sic\] closed, proclamation thereof being mad \[sic\] by the Moderator. The Judges then proceeded to publicly canvass the votes, and the persons having the greatest number of votes for the respective offices voted for wer \[sic\] declared elected. Gust Sund recd 25 votes for Supervisor for 1 year. Gust Sund was declared elected Supervisor for 1 year. Sam Glidden recd 25 votes for Supervisor for 3 years. Sam Glidden was declared elected Supervisor for 3 years. A.H. Keen recd 25 votes for Town Clerk. A.H. Keen was declared elected Town Clerk. A.W. Tourtillott recd 25 votes for Treasurer. A.W. Tourtillott was declared elected Treasurer. E. Morgan** recd 25 votes for Assessor. E. Morgan was declared elected Assessor. W. Spicht recd 25 votes for Justice of Peas \[sic\]. W. Spicht was declared elected Justice of Peas. Gust Moritz recd 25 votes for Constable. Gust Moritz was declared elected Constable. Twenty-five ballots were case.
