SUBJECT: Boys and Girls Club Update
Councilmember Thompson is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Elk
River Boys and Girls Club. Councilmember Motin is also on the Board of
Directors. The Board of Directors met on Thursday, May 13,1999. The Lions
Club is working with this organization for the construction of a facility in the
city-owned Lions Park. The Boys and Girls Club is moving forward with its
fundraising efforts for this project and the building is underway.

Executive Director John Fitzgerald was before the Park and Recreation
Commission at their last meeting to discuss signage for the Boys and Girls
Club. Additionally, the city is considering moving its Lions Park sign closer
to the entrance off of Jackson Avenue. A cost analysis for moving the city
sign and a review of both signage designs are currently taking place.
Councilmember Thompson and/or Motin should be able to provide everyone
with an update on the status of this project at this May 17, 1999, City
Council meeting.
