Discussion of the National Fitness Campaign Fitness Court.
Background/Discussion
Staff will present a two minute video to provide an overview of the National Fitness Campaign Fitness
Court. The fitness court is an outdoor bodyweight circuit training system built in public spaces. Staff
had a conference call with representatives of the National Fitness Campaign and was intrigued by the
value of providing a world class fitness system free for residents.
Orono Park is an ideal location, as shown in the proposed Orono Park Master Plan, for this court. Staff
presented this item to the Parks and Recreation Commission on July 12.
Financial Impact
A city contribution of $80,000, along with installation of a concrete pad. A national sponsor will
contribute $10,000 for total project costs of $90,000 plus concrete pad installation.

MAKE WORLD CLASS FITNESS FREE FOR ALL
City Launches NFC Fitness Court™ Program for Residents
SAN FRANCISCO, California, April 10, 2018– Today, Mayor Ed Lee announces the City of
San Francisco has partnered with Kaiser Permanente to join the 2018 National Fitness
Campaign, and will introduce an NFC Fitness Court™ at Marina Green in a free to attend
Opening Day celebration.
The 2018 Campaign honors one hundred cities across America who are activating public
spaces to provide free opportunities for fitness to their residents.
The world class NFC Fitness Court™ is an outdoor gym – designed for bodyweight
circuit training – reimagined to transform modern public spaces. The NFC ecosystem
combines a simple, seven minute, high quality workout and connected, digital platforms
to build fit communities.
“We are honored to recognize the City of San Francisco and Kaiser Permanente for
making the health of their community a priority,” said NFC Founder and CEO Mitch
Menaged. “Building fit cities must begin with creating opportunity for all, and we are
thrilled to partner with those who are doing just that. Let’s make world class fitness free
for everyone.”
Kaiser Permanente, leader in community health and wellness, has teamed up with the
City to develop this incredible free-to-the-public outdoor gym, opening on Tuesday,
April 17th, 2018.
