SUBJECT: Consider Purchasing Building and Environmental Department
Vehicle
The Building and Environmental Department budgeted to purchase a new vehicle in 2005
to replace one of the current vehicles used by the Building Inspector. The vehicle being
replaced is a 1994 pickup, which doesn't fit the needs of any other city department at this
time. This vehicle will be sold at auction.
The Building and Environmental Department has selected a Ford Explorer to purchase.
The vehicle will be bought from the state bid through Elk River Ford at a cost of roughly
$21,000. The Department had good luck with its last purchase of a Ford Explorer instead
of a pickup. The Explorer had the necessary 4-wheel drive and is able to carry the
equipment needed for inspections (e.g. a ladder), but it also better serves the Department
for transporting multiple passengers going to seminars, etc.
