Action Requested
Approve,by motion, a Special Event Permit to Elk River Municipal Utilities for a ribbon cutting and
grand opening to celebrate the rollout of the electric vehicle charging program on Wednesday, September
13, 2017, subject to the following questions:
1. The event planner is required to notify businesses,residents, and organizations within 500-feet of
the event. Downtown businesses will be notified of the parking lot closure. The city will provide a
template of the notice that must be distributed. The city will also provide a list of properties to be
notified. The event planner must submit an affidavit that the notices were distributed.
2. Closure of the Main Street Parking Plaza will be permitted from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Wednesday, September 13, 2017. Applicant is responsible for barricading parking lot. Parking lot
must be completely cleared prior to removal of the barricades.
3. Applicant is responsible for arranging delivery of barricades and/or cones by contacting Street
Superintendent Mark Thompson at 763.635.1122.
4. Applicant is responsible for garbage clean-up immediately following the event.
5. No stakes shall be pounded into the pavement or anywhere in the parking lot.
6. Tents must meet applicable state and fire building code requirements. Applicant is responsible for
contacting Fire Marshal Cliff Anderson at 763.635.1110 to schedule an inspection of the tents
prior to use.
Background/Discussion
There is now a Level Two Electric Vehicle Charger open to the public in the Main Street Parking Plaza
downtown.
To celebrate the rollout of the electric vehicle charging program,ERMU is planning a ribbon cutting and
grand opening from 6-8 p.m.,Wednesday, September 13, 2017,in the Main Street Parking Plaza.
The event,which coincides with National Drive Electric Week,will offer the community an opportunity
to learn about electric vehicle technology through speakers and educational displays, talk with electric
vehicle owners, and drive electric vehicles. The ride and drive is sponsored by Cornerstone Automotive.
