Background/Discussion
Members of the Elk River Youth Football and the Elk River Youth Lacrosse plan to present a proposal
on additional athletic field lighting for Oak Knoll. This is in addition to the athletic field lighting that was
installed in 2014.
The 2014 Oak Knoll field lighting project was $135,000. Both Associations together donated a total of
$73,000 to this project over a four year period from 2014 to 2017. This donation made up 54.1% of the
estimated projct costs.
The athletic field that is currently lighted is field#3. The proposal is to light field#4.
Financial Impact
The cost of athletic field lighting is estimated at$118,000. The price is lower than 2014 because one of
the posts from field 3 was designed to also be used on field 4.
Staff will not know if the city can make a financial contribution until the Park Improvmeent Fund is
reviewed by staff,the Commission and then approved by City Council. The 2018 Fund should be
reviewed by the Commission for the first time at the September meeting.
