SUBJECT: Fire Department Open House

Every year in September the Elk River Fire and Ambulance Service holds its annual
open house and dance located at 415 Jackson Avenue, the site of the Elk River Fire
Department. This year's annual open house and dance is slated for Saturday,
September 18, 1999. The open house will be from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with
displays of all of the fire department's equipment, fire department demonstrations,
blood pressure checks, cholesterol screening, and many other activities. We will also
be giving away free balloons for the children, cookies, pop, popcorn, and fire truck
rides on the antique Elk River fire truck.
In the evening from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., will be our fire department dance
featuring the White Sidewalls. The White Sidewalls are a fifties and sixties group
that has entertained our attendees for the past two years. The White Sidewalls are a
very popular group and once again due to popular demand, we have brought the
White Sidewalls back for our annual dance. In cooperation with the Elk River Lion's
Club, they will be selling the beer, wine coolers, and pop for this event. Once again,
on behalf of the open house committee, the fire department is asking for council
approval to close 4th Street from Jackson Avenue to Railroad Drive. This short
section of 4th Street is located on the south side of the fire department, and for the
safety of the dance attendees, the open house committee has requested its closure
during the dance only on September 18, 1999.

On behalf of the Elk Rive Fire Department and its membership, I would like to invite
the mayor and council members to both our open house, which is scheduled from 1:00
p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and our dance, from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., on Saturday,
September 18,1999, at the Elk River Fire Department. If you have any questions in
