Resolution Accepting an Invitation to Attend the Tour of the Superior Essex Cable Plant
ACTION REQUESTED:
Adopt Resolution 17-9 accepting an invitation to attend the tour of the Superior Essex cable
plant in Tarboro,North Carolina
DISCUSSION:
In March 2107 the Commission awarded the 2017 cable bid to Dakota Supply Group (DSG).
One of the cable products that DSG had included in the bid was Superior Essex who are new to
manufacturing this type of electric distribution cable. Recognizing this, DSG has arranged a tour
at the Superior Essex manufacturing plant in Tarboro,NC. DSG will take a group of municipal
and cooperative electric utility representatives from Minnesota to tour the plant in late
September. And DSG has offered to pay the travel and lodging expenses for all attending the
tour. Per legal counsel,this needs to be treated as a donation to ERMU from DSG and requires
the adoption of a resolution to receive the donation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no financial impact to ERMU.

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ELK RIVER MUNICIPAL UTILITIES
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF ELK RIVER
MUNICIPAL UTILITIES ACCEPTING AN INVITATION TO ATTEND THE
TOUR OF THE SUPERIOR ESSEX CABLE PLANT IN TARBORO,NORTH
CAROLINA.
WHEREAS,Dakota Supply Group (DSG) has invited ERMU to send one ERMU
employee to tour the Superior Essex cable plant in Tarboro,North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, DSG will make all the travel arrangements and cover all travel expenses;
and
WHEREAS,the Board finds that it is in the best interest of ERMU to accept this
invitation so that ERMU staff can learn more about Superior Essex,the products,plant
quality control, and the overall plant operation.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Elk
River Municipal Utilities to accept the invitation of DSG to send one employee to the
Superior Essex cable plant in Tarboro,North Carolina.
This Resolution Passed and Adopted this 12th day of September, 2017.
