Background/Discussion For the past four years, the city has partnered with the Elk River Chamber of Commerce on activities that recognized Minnesota Manufacturing Week. This year the city will recognize Manufacturing Week with several activities: ■ A direct mailing will be sent to all the Manufacturing Companies in Elk River. ■ Staff is working with manufacturing businesses to participate in the Minnesota Dream it Do it Manufacturing tours facilitated by Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). ■ Replay the city, chamber, and school district-partnered State of Manufacturing video —which was created last year by high school seniors on our social media outlets. ■ Staff is participating in the Star Nears special addition to promote our manufacturing businesses in the newspaper's special edition insert. ■ Promotion of the special week will be highlighted on all our social media sites. Financial Impact None Attachments ■ Proclamation The Elk River Vision A PehoMing community 2a itb revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional POWERED By service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity INAMIRE1 Proclamation Designating October I to October 7 as Minnesota Manufacturing Week WHEREAS, Manufacturing is a dynamic and robust industry, crucial to the health and strength of Minnesota's diverse economy; and WHEREAS, The manufacturing industry contributed $48.2 billion to Minnesota's economy in 2016, and at 16 percent,is the largest sector contributing to the state's private gross domestic product; and WHEREAS, In 2016,workers took home $20.3 billion in wages from Minnesota manufacturing jobs, the second-highest amount among the state's business sectors; and WHEREAS, Manufactured exports brought$18 billion into the Minnesota economy in 2016; and WHEREAS, Manufacturing provides 318,000 highly skilled,well-paying jobs,which significantly contribute to Minnesota's high standard of living and economic vitality; and WHEREAS, Manufacturing in Minnesota pays an average annual wage of$74,360,which is 17 percent higher than the state's overall average wage; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I,John J.
