Subject: AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE
FIVE (5) POLICE PATROL VEHICLES
The police department requested quotes for the purchase of year 2000
model full-sized police vehicles from Elk: River Ford and Saxon
Motors. Elk: River Ford was the only dealership to submit a quote.
Their quote "W"as $21,211.00 per vehicle.
We also received the bid price for an equivalent vehicle (year 2000
full-sized Ford) of $21,073 from Superior Ford, Brooklyn Park.
Superior Ford is contracted through the State of Minnesota Purchasing
Group. The City of Elk: River has the ability to purchase through the
State contract.
I am, therefore, recommending, as "W"e have done the past several
years, to purchase the vehicle(s) locally through Elk: River Ford. I
understand the local quote is $138 higher per vehicle; ho"W"ever, as Elk:
River Ford is a local business and taxpayer, I feel it is appropriate to
. purchase the vehicle(s) from them.
