Subject: AUTHORIZATION TO FILL CRIME
PREVENTION OFFICERlCSO POSITION
In 1998,"\Ve "\Vere authorized to hire a Records Entry Clerk for up to
t"\Venty-five (25) hours per "\Veek. As part of the 1999 budget, this
position "\Vas increased to a full-time position. Unfortunately, our part-
time person resigned prior to becoming full-time. Because of the
significant "\Vorkload and responsibility for Kathy Anderson and the
backlog of record entry, "\Ve decided to split Kathy's duties and
responsibilities bet"\Veen t"\Vo (2) positions.
The City Council authorized us to promote Michelle Masica to the
position of Support Services Supervisor, "\Vhich included the Record
Entry Clerk responsibilities. This promotion negated our need to fill
the vacant record entry position. Ho"\Vever, as a result of Michelle
accepting the ne"\V position, "\Ve "\Vere left "\Vith a vacancy in our Crime
Prevention Unit.

We have conducted a selection process to fill this vacancy and have
selected Darren McKeman, "\Vho is eligible to be hired as a police
officer. I am, therefore, requesting authorization to hire Darren
contingent on him successfully passing the remainder of the selection
process. He "\Vould start at Pay Grade 7, Step A.
