This report is a monthly highlight of department activities related to collaborations, strategic
planning, staff changes/developments, and park operations.
Elk Rivers Ice Arena and Lion John Weicht Park Facilities RFP
On Monday, October 2,2017, the City Council approved hiring 292 Design Group to complete
architectural services for the Arena and Lion John Weicht Park Facilities.
Three proposals were received and all three firms were interviewed.
• HTG Architects $1,320,000
• JLG Architects $898,000
• 292 Design Group $1,065,000
Staff believes all three firms are well qualified to do the work. Following an internal review,292
Design Group received the strongest support for the project due in part to their team and team
continuity,work plan deliverables,project schedule,understanding of project scope, and revised fee.
Staff felt that 292 Design Group assembled an exceptionally strong and proven team of experts—in
fact, the same team proposed for Elk River just completed the $30.4 million Shakopee Ice Arena
and Community Center renovation project.
Following approval, 292 Design Group has started to quickly begin schematic design to kick-off the
proposed compressed schedule to meet an April construction date timeframe. A kick off meeting
was held on Tuesday, October 10.
