Background/Discussion
At the October 26 meeting, the Council directed three representatives be added to the Ice Arena design
team including a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission, a resident-at-large and a business
representative recommended by the Chamber. On October 17, the Parks and Recreation Commission
recommended Gunther Sagan as its representative.
We solicited letters of interest on social media and our city website. Candidates must be able to attend as
many as 10 meetings on Monday afternoons from 1-3 p.m.
Five letters of interest were received and each confirmed they will attend the interview:

The city was informed at least two business representatives were interested; however we have not
received any letters of interest.

Dear Michael Hecker:
Please accept this letter of intent as my notice to serve on the Arena Design Team. I am very
excited and passionate about this upcoming project and would enjoy the opportunity to serve on
this team. I currently sit on the Elk River Ice Arena Commission as well as both the Elk River Youth
Hockey Board and Elk River Youth Softball Board. As an end user and a representative of those that
use these facilities, I believe I am in a good position to give vital input to this project and to help
insure these improvements will address the needs of the community and make these facilities the
best they can be for generations to come.
I am aware of the Monday meeting times and that will not be an issue for me. If there are any
questions or concerns, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Letter of intent to be on the Arena Design Team.
Attn: Michael Hecker
As a resident of Elk River since 1991, Graduate of Elk River Highschool 1999 and former football and
hockey and baseball player for this great city I would like to put my name in for consideration to take
part on this team. I currently reside in Elk River, have been operating a business in Elk River located on
Main Street and have 4 children actively involved in sports and city/school activities.
I would like to mention that my Son does play hockey for ER youth hockey but also plays summer hockey
as well. Last year my wife and I were in 28 different rinks in MN and WI for hockey. I am not part of the
association in anyway and I do not coach or have any skin in the game when it comes to the rink. I do
however have a passion for this city and the facilities we are able to offer to our residents. I want to
give full transparency that I am a hockey dad, love the game and am excited to see kids participate in
sports.
My background is in communication and small business management. I have used these skills in
commercial real estate, development and risk management. I have a strong back ground in taking a plan
and communicating a vision as to how that plan will unfold. I believe these strengths would make me a
solid asset to this team.
