Adopt,by motion, an ordinance removing the regular Planning Commission Work Session meeting.
Purpose of the Ordinance Amendment
The proposed amendment removes language from the ordinance stating a Planning Commission Work Session will
be held the second Tuesday of each month.
Public Benefit
The amendment clarifies the regular meeting schedule of the Planning Commission.
Background/Discussion
City ordinance section 2-299 states:
The planning commission shall meet regularly on the fourth Tuesday of each month to take action on its ofcial business,

may be held at any time upon the call of the chair. Notice of the time and place o f a special meeting shall be communicated to the
members and publicly noticed at least three days prior to the meeting except in the event o f an emergency.A majority of the
commission members shall constitute a quorum.All commission meetings shall be open to the public. Except as provided in this
article, the commission shall be governed by and operate pursuant to Robert's Rules of Order, Nenjh Revised(ninth edition.
Including the work session in the city code requires preparation of a meeting cancellation notice when the meeting
is not held. A work session on the second Tuesday of the month has not been held for over five years.To
eliminate unnecessary work for city staff and confusion when the meeting is not cancelled and posted on the city's
website staff proposes removing the underlined section of the ordinances from Sec. 2-299.
If a work session is required in the future, staff will post the notice accordingly and within all statutory time frames
required of special meetings.
Planning Commission
No comments for or against the proposal have been received, and the Planning Commission unanimously
recommended approval of the amendment.

City of Elk River, Minnesota, City Code
The City Council of the City of Elk River does hereby ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That§ Section 2-299,Meetings and rules of procedure, of the City of Elk River Code
of Ordinances shall be amended as follows:
Sec. 2-299. —Meetings and rules of procedure.
