Statement for Mayor Dietz
Summarizing the City Administrator’s Performance Review
Pursuant to the State’s Open Meeting Law, Minn. Statute Section 13D.05, the City Council
conducted a closed meeting on Monday, November 20, 2017, to evaluate the performance of City
Administrator Calvin Portner.
Mayor Dietz and Councilmembers Olsen, Ovall, and Wagner were in attendance.
The law requires the Council, at its next open meeting, to summarize its conclusions regarding the
evaluation. The Council used an executive performance assessment tool called CheckPoint 360.
City Administrator Portner’s review comprised discussion regarding his employment with the city
and focused on the issues faced by the city, the Council, and the administrator over the evaluation
period and the progress made toward achieving previously established goals.
The Council concluded, in all categories, Cal has met or exceeded expectations. The Council is
extremely happy with his performance since his last review.
