Action Requested
Approve,by motion, the hiring of Joe Audette as Liquor Operations Manager.
Background/Discussion
With the retirement of Liquor Operations Manager Dave Potvin,we went to market to fill this position.
We received 32 applications and interviewed the top nine candidates. Following second interviews with
four,leadership and management assessments for three, as well as background and reference checks,we
recommend Joe Audette for this position.
Mr. Audette is currently the Municipal Liquor Manager at River Bend Liquor for the City of Windom.
Prior to Windom,he was Liquor Manager for Supervalu, Cub Liquors. He sits on the Minnesota
Municipal Beverage Association (MMBA) Board of Directors and is the President of the Windom Area
Chamber of Commerce. While in Windom he has won the MMBA Facility Award for Best Business
Development and the national award, StateWays, for best consumer tasting event. He is passionate about
community involvement and providing opportunities to introduce consumers to products.
Accepting this position requires relocation by Mr. Audette and his spouse and we have yet to determine a
start date. We anticipate that he will begin working for the city in three to four weeks.
Starting pay for Mr. Audette will be Step A of pay grade 13. He will be eligible for a step increase
following successful completion of his orientation. Mr. Audette will begin earning vacation leave at the
rate of 3 weeks per year.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
