Appoint,by motion, the environmental administrator position indefinitely as the assistant weed
inspector.
Background/Discussion
Per state law,MN Statute Chapter 18, the mayor is designated as the city's official weed inspector and the
city may appoint assistant weed inspectors.
In the past, the city has made these appointments annually or to coincide with the mayor's term. This
appointment is not required by statute on an annual basis. Therefore, staff recommends appointing the
position of the environmental administrator as assistant weed inspector. This position would have the
same authority and responsibility as the mayor in the capacity of weed inspector.
Local weed inspectors examine areas of the city for compliance with state laws regarding the eradication
of noxious weeds. They may also issue permits for the transportation of materials infested with noxious,
weed-propagating parts.
