6.1f ERMUSR 01-09-2018 Elk River Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING TO: FROM: ERMU Commission Tom Sagstetter—Conservation &Key Accounts Manager MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: January 9, 2018 6.1f SUBJECT: Staff Update ACTION REQUESTED: None DISCUSSION: • Received and reviewed the FleetCarma study results. Over the last 10 months ERMU and the City have had 20 fleet vehicles tracked and usage analyzed. The resulting Electric Vehicle Suitability Assessment recommends that 8 vehicles be replaced with either all electric (battery), or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. ERMU has 5 of the 8 vehicles that are being recommended for replacement with battery or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The study also calculated that by replacing those 5 utility vehicles the total cost of ownership is estimated to decrease by$62,291 over the projected 7 year life cycle. • Staff has been working with Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association(MMUA) and Minnesota Municipal Power Agency(MMPA) on standardizing the contracts, requirements, and processes that govern the interconnection of cogeneration and small power production in Minnesota. This initiative is to gain compliance with Minnesota State Statute based on the recent decisions of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission pertaining to a few cooperative utilities. Although ERMU has not been in total compliance with the Statutes, ERMU has been clear and fair with small power producers so there have not been any challenges with the current policies. • ERMU staff is continuing to evaluate options for the landfill gas plant. • The level two charger downtown has 28 charging sessions, and provided customers with 125 kWh of green energy. The DC fast charger has had 18 sessions and provided 124 kWh of green energy to customers. There has been a communication issue with the Combo charging plug on the DC fast charger in the past two weeks. The Combo plug was not able to establish communication with the vehicle and was not able to charge it. ChargePoint believes the issue has been resolved and we will continue to monitor any issues with this charger. • All the rebate forms are available for commercial customers and there have been a few customer calls already checking on availibity. • The largest solar PV array in ERMU service territory became operational on December 20. The customer installed 17.25 kW and this is the first ground mounted system in the ERMU service territory. Page 1 of 1 87
