Action Requested
Approve,by motion, the hiring of Kevin Anderson as Street Maintenance Operator II effective February
6, 2018.
Background/Discussion
To provide consistent oversight and increased efficiencies with shared resources,following the
retirements of a Street Maintenance Operator II and our Street Superintendent, City Administrator
Portner moved the Street and Equipment Services divisions under the supervision of Park Maintenance
Superintendent Tim Sevcik. The vacancies created by the retirements are being filled by hiring two Street
Maintenance II Operators.
We received 40 applications for these vacancies and interviewed seven candidates. We recommend hiring
Kevin Anderson for one of the vacant positions.
Until 2014 Mr. Anderson was the owner of Anderson Pools which included running and maintaining
equipment and snow removal in the off season. Since then he has worked as an equipment operator for
Ames Construction and for Bituminous Roadways.
This position is part of the IUOE Local#49 union and pay and benefits will follow union contract and
city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
